We wanted to help regional and local authorities build resilience against climate change by making it easier to share and reuse adaptation knowledge.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-812a7de e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"812a7de\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5387f7e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5387f7e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Now, at the end of Year One, we&#8217;re taking stock. We&#8217;re working with six diverse case studies, from Arctic radioisotope monitoring to urban flood risk in Hamburg, from coastal ecosystem management in France to national adaptation planning in Portugal.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4d99f46 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"4d99f46\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-79cc288 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"79cc288\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The idea is straightforward. Climate adaptation knowledge exists in fragments\u2014in municipal reports, scientific papers, monitoring datasets, and the lived experience of practitioners. Making this knowledge FAIR means a city planner in Seville could learn from Hamburg&#8217;s urban heat work. A Portuguese adaptation hub could draw on systematic reviews from across Europe. Workshops completed across all six case studies. FAIR awareness training delivered. Technical frameworks specified. An External Advisory Board established. A strategic partnership forged with our sister project CLIMATE-ADAPT4EOSC. Communities that started the year uncertain about FAIR ended it ready to put it into practice.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7159a77 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"7159a77\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-68ad5e4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"68ad5e4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>But here&#8217;s what we learned that matters more than any checklist: <strong>our communities came into this project with real hopes about what FAIR could do for them\u2014and after a year, those hopes haven&#8217;t yet connected to their experience.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-26151e7 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"26151e7\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a9c263c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a9c263c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This isn&#8217;t because they didn&#8217;t engage. They did. They attended workshops, completed FAIR awareness training, learned about metadata, wrote user stories, built FAIR Implementation Profiles. They did everything we asked.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2b73165 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"2b73165\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d34ecdc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d34ecdc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>But there&#8217;s a gap. The FAIR they imagined \u2014 where their data becomes more discoverable, where knowledge flows more easily, where someone else&#8217;s work becomes genuinely reusable for their own adaptation challenges \u2014 doesn&#8217;t yet match the FAIR they&#8217;ve experienced, which has mostly involved responding to technical questions from us.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e49bbb4 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"e49bbb4\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-23ba26c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"23ba26c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>We were asking communities to be respondents to our process. Our Arctic radioisotopes team has made strong progress with the technical framework. The RiOMar team in France invested in stakeholder engagement and understood early what their coastal communities needed. Hamburg and Bremen have municipal stakeholders with concrete adaptation decisions to make\u2014exactly the kind of real-world grounding that makes FAIR meaningful.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-090e4ed e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"090e4ed\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8a5e3bf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8a5e3bf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The groundwork is solid. They&#8217;re demonstrations of value.<\/strong> Each one starts from a real question that adaptation practitioners actually have and shows how FAIR approaches help answer it.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5ca4e85 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"5ca4e85\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-894cbd3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"894cbd3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>We expect these demonstrators to spark conversations that go both ways. When communities see concrete examples, they&#8217;ll tell us what&#8217;s missing, what doesn&#8217;t fit their reality, and what they&#8217;d actually need. It&#8217;s one we increasingly see across FAIR, EOSC, and climate service initiatives.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fd41274 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"fd41274\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-settings=\"{&quot;_ha_eqh_enable&quot;:false}\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9ca25cf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9ca25cf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Together with CLIMATE-ADAPT4EOSC, we&#8217;re launching a <strong>Thematic Working Group on FAIR for Climate Change Adaptation Data Management<\/strong> in 2026. Communities can understand what FAIR means and still not see how it helps them. When a systematic review in Portugal automatically connects to the global adaptation knowledge base. When the question shifts from &#8220;what is FAIR?&#8221; to &#8220;what else could we do with this?&#8221;<\/p><p>Climate change adaptation is urgent, complex, and fundamentally collaborative.
